Home automation is here to take some stress out of your life, because if you’re like most people, you have enough on your plate already. Remembering to take care of little details like turning down the thermostat can be a challenge when both work and family are demanding your attention! And when you’re gone all day, wouldn’t you rather come home to a warm and well-lit house than a cold and dark one? Home automation can help with that too!

With home automation, you can cross some tasks off your list, save money on your utility bills, protect your home, and even make your home nicer to come home too.

Cross some things off your list
As mentioned above, it can be easy to forget things like turning down the heat when you’re rushing to leave the house in the morning, and if you have kids, you know how easy it is for them to leave lights on to burn all day while everyone’s at school or work! And then when you do remember to turn down the heat and turn off the lights, what do you come home to? A cold, dark house!

With a home automation system, you can set it and forget it, then enjoy some peace of mind knowing the heat won’t blast all day long, but will turn on in time to welcome you back. Ditto for your lights: You can turn them all off when you leave, but use your home automation system to set some lights to come on before you get back. That’s a safety issue on the one hand, lighting your way up the front walk. But it’s also an emotional one, as you come home to a lit house, not a dark one. (More on that perk below.)

Automating to save money
And what happens to your utility bills when you’re able to turn everything off while gone? They go down! Plus your home is greener, because you’re not wasting precious resources by having the heat or lights on when not there.

Protecting your home
Then there’s the additional security offered. What if the kids are the last ones out the door and they forget to lock the door, or even turn on the alarm? And you’re at work prepping for a big meeting with no way to get home and secure everything? A home automation system lets you lock and unlock doors, and even arm or disarm your security system, all from your phone. This is also handy if a neighbor should need to get into your house because something happened to your dog, or for some other unforeseen reason. And it’s simply more peace of mind.

And then there’s the emotional benefit…
Practical matters aside, let’s consider another kind of peace, and the emotional impact of being able to control lights and temperature, even when you’re not home. Burned into my brain and never to be forgotten is one cold, dark winter evening when I pulled into the driveway, having just picked up my little ones from daycare after a long workday. As I held my then 5-year-old’s hand and carried his baby sister from the car to the front door of our dark and therefore very unwelcoming home, the little guy says to me, “Mommy, I like coming home better when you’re already here.” That was 16 years ago, and I remember it as if it happened yesterday. Imagine if I’d had a home automation system, and we’d come home to a well-lit, warm and welcoming home instead? Imagine how happy we would have been as we pulled into the driveway and saw our home just waiting for us!

Home automation: Your path to less stress, lower bills and a nicer welcome at the end of the day.

Now, if we could just get that home automation system to start dinner too…
